UFC badass Ronda Rousey threw her hat in the proverbial ring for the title role of Captain Marvel last week, and for the most part the internet is not opposed to the idea. Most people who don’t like the notion of Rousey as Carol Danvers are (rightly) concerned over her acting abilities. I think with some solid coaching and a good director, she could be okay. But we fans don’t just want okay for the first superhero movie carried by a woman.
I have decided to make a dream list of those I wish could be cast as Captain Marvel. Some of these women are most likely not going to happen, a couple of them have been tossed out there as possibilities, but all of them would be perfect for this character. This list is in no particular order.

Larter has played the kickass hero on more than one occasion in the Resident Evil franchise and the much forgotten American Outlaws. She has also played sexy, crazy, and sexily crazy in a few other movies like Obsessed and Final Destination and TV shows like Heroes. Larter is enough of a name that people would recognize her as a leading actress, but not so big that she wouldn’t say no if offered the part. Resident Evil 6 has been (thankfully) declared the final movie in a franchise that should have ended with the first movie so she is looking to move on to the next big thing. She could hold her own in a universe were mostly the men dominate.

Most of us know and love Staite as our favorite mechanic Kaylee from Firefly, so we know she is willing to get her hands dirty (in a role). She also played a doctor in the awesomely underrated Startgate Atlantis, a lawyer in The Killing, and a sympathetic, bitch-monster, actress in The LA Complex. So we know Staite has a wide range. She also has the name recognition in the nerdy world that will drive people to the theaters to see her play a superhero. This may just be a pipe dream because she doesn’t have as big of a name I think the MCU guys want the woman playing Captain Marvel to have, but hey Chris Pratt was not a huge name either when he was cast in Guardians of the Galaxy.
Blunt has done the comedies, she has done the dramas, she has done the romantic lead, and more important, she has done the badass. She has an established name that will hold up in the MCU.

Same for her.

Before any of you harp on her race or age just let me remind you that Zoe Washburne will come and kick your ass if you do not think she could own this role. I would start a #GinaIsCaptainMarvel if I thought this was something that could totally happen.
As far as I have seen, Emily Blunt and Natalie Dormer are two of the top names on a very short list of women being courted for the role. Would you go and see a Captain Marvel movie starting either woman? I know I would.
Who would be your dream actress for Captain Marvel? Let me know in the comments section.
