This morning the second trailer for X-Men: Apocalypse dropped and things look more bleak than ever for the new generation of heroes as they square off against the OG mutant. Take a look after the jump:
Nightmares seem to be the theme of choice running thru the X-Men trailers. The first trailer had Jean Grey waking from a nightmare about the coming future and this trailer starts with Magneto asking Professor X if he ever had bad dreams about those who would take his children from him.
The rest of the second trailer looks like something straight out of everyone’s nightmares as we see what looks like global destruction happening. Most likely it is just one city being laid to waste as global destruction seems a bit too much for a summer popcorn blockbuster. Of course all the big comic book movies are putting hero against hero this summer so maybe global destruction might not be off the table.
The tone of this trailer definitely feels like the end of a trilogy. Since Days of Future Past reset the X-Men timeline, Apocalypse looks to introduce us to the kids who will take over the next set of films. For the moment Jean Grey, Quicksilver, Cyclops, Nightcrawler, and Havoc look hopelessly outmatched as Mystique, Beast, and Professor X are terrified. It makes you wonder what the cost of victory will be for our heroes.
X-Men: Apocalypse hits theaters May 27th.
