The Infinity Stones will obviously play a big role in Phase Three of the MCU seeing as the next Avengers movie has the sub title of Infinity Wars. The stones have been featured in a few of the films from Phases One and Two, but they have been used individually to drive the plot forward. When Scarlet Witch played with Thor’s mind in Age of Ultron, he had a vision of the stones being placed together. He left Earth and returned to Asgard for answers, signaling the start of their importance to the films as a set and not just individual sources of power.

For those who are keeping track, we have five stones already in play and one more needing to be found. So far we have:

The Mind Stone (the yellow one) seen in Loki’s staff during The Avengers and Age of Ultron. It is currently in the head of Vision. The stone is giving the newest Avenger his life and consciousness/morality, but it has the power to make the user super smart and gain access/control to others thoughts and dreams. Experimentation with the stone by Hydra was what gave Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver their powers.

The Space Stone AKA the Tesseract (the blue one) seen in Captain America and The Avengers. Currently on Asgard for safekeeping, but we all know who is sitting on the throne. The stone can create worm holes so whoever possesses it can travel or warp space.

The Reality Stone AKA the Aether (the red one) seen in Thor: The Dark World. The stone was given to The Collector for “safe keeping,” but after his encounter with the next stone, I’m not sure how protected the damn thing would be now. So far all we know about the stone is it is a fluid like weapon that can destroy the Nine Realms. I’m sure there is more to it and we will find out later.

The Power Stone (the purple one) seen in Guardians of the Galaxy which is currently being watched over by the Nova Corps on Xandar, a planet with no real security since a large portion of their military was killed off by Ronan when he attempted to destroy the planet. The stone can destroy lots of stuff.

The Time Stone (the green one) as seen in Doctor Strange set with in the Eye of Agamotto and in the possession of Stephen Strange who lives at the Sanctum Sanctorum in New York. The stone allows the user to control time. Speed it up, slow it down, reverse it, or fast-forward thru it. As seen at the end of Doctor Strange, the stone can be used as a weapon by trapping enemies in a continuous time loop.

Still Need to Find:

The Soul Stone (which will apparently be orange) according to Marvel Wiki allows whoever wields the stone will have the power to destroy, steal, or restore someone’s soul or spirit. The most logical movies I can think of that will introduce the Soul Stone would be either Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 or Thor: Ragnarok. I wouldn’t be too surprised if the stone is discovered during the events of Black Panther. In order to become the Black Panther, the future king must form a mystical connection with the Wakandan Panther God. The film will make several references to someone’s spirit or soul. It would also be another way to spread the stone wealth since both GOG and Thor have had Infinity Stones play a large part in a story line.

Put all the stones together in the Infinity Gauntlet (the glove Thanos puts on during the mid-credits scene in Age of Ultron) and all hell will break loose (which is what Thanos wants I’m sure).
