Assassin’s Creed Trailer takes us back to the Inquisition

Last night, Jimmy Kimmel Live premiered the first trailer to the highly anticipated Assassin’s Creed which stars Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard. Take a look after the jump:

I am not really what you would call a gamer. I have a few video games I play, but none of them are on the level of Assassin’s Creed. I mostly play Mario Bros. or sports games on my Wii. I know nothing about Assassin’s Creed outside of the game’s trailers on TV. It is a very cool looking game that already seems to have film caliber story structure to it. I have no idea how to base this trailer to what fans of the video game expect this movie to be. I can say Assassin’s Creed as a film looks amazing. I don’t like Kanye West (I think he is massively overrated and an absolute moron), but his “I Am A God” works for the tone the first look is going for.

Fassbender plays Callum Lynch, a criminal that is executed for his crimes (supposedly), but Cotillard’s Sophia Rikkin comes in and takes him to Abstergo where he is placed in the Animus to relive the life of one of his ancestors, Aguilar.

The premise sounds a little silly, but I’m hoping future trailers will clarify as to why Lynch has to go back in time and what information does Rikkin want from Aguilar.

Video game adaptations have been meh at the best of times and horribly unwatchable most other times. What makes this one really promising is the caliber of film’s stars (Fassbender, Cotillard, Jeremy Irons, Brendan Gleeson, and Michael Kenneth Williams), Macbeth director Justin Kurzel at the helm, and Ubisoft is very much involved in making this movie. Sounds like a cocktail for the first successful movie adaptation of a video game.

What do you think of the first Assassin’s Creed trailer? Are you excited for this film? Do you play the video game? If you do, I’m curious as to what you expect from this film. Sound off in the comments section below.
