Dancing with the Stars Recap – Triple the fun, Double the Elimination

The semifinals are here and the competition couldn’t be tighter.  Each couple had an amazing night in both their individual dances and in the threesomes.  As much as the scores from last night counts towards the final score, it is last week’s scores that mattered for last night’s chance to move on.  Five wonderful dancers started out the night and at the end of it all, only three couples moved to the finals.  Let’s break it down.

Wanya and Lindsay

In round one, Witney joined the couple for the three way Paso and the round two individual dance was the Charleston.  Wanya and Lindsay were upset at last week’s scores and the big slip up.  Wanya has been feeling like he has lost the fun of the competition.  For both dances this week, Lindsay made sure to bring back the joy of dancing for him and it really helped to give the singer his confidence back.  The Paso was intense but Wanya was able to convey a poise and look like he was relishing dancing with two amazing women.  The Charleston had so much excitement to it.  The couple looked as if they were having the time of their lives on the floor.  The old Wanya from the beginning of the competition was there in full force and it payed off with a perfect night for the singer.  Score: 60/60

Paige and Mark

Round one had Alan join them in the Samba because Alan stood in for Mark when he tweaked his back.  Round two had the couple doing the Argentine Tango.  There are a lot of rumors going around about Alan and Paige.  The two of them said they are just friends in the package, but when Erin cornered him after the dance, he was shaking and couldn’t give a straight answer.  The Samba was fierce and even though she was dancing with two pros, Paige was easily the star of the show.  She came out strong and led the men around by their feathers.  The Argentine Tango was the sexiest dance I have seen on the show in a long time.  Paige really embraced being a woman with a sexuality and I’m pretty angry Len punished her for it and ruined her perfect night.  Score: 59/60

Nyle and Peta

For the round one Jive, troop member Jenna was picked and the round two individual dance was an Argentine Tango.  Jenna was hoping she was going to be picked because she believes Nyle and Peta are going to win, also she has a big crush on the Top Model winner (who doesn’t?).  Unfortunately, the Jive had so much content and the added dancer was a little too much for Nyle.  He got off tempo more than once and had a difficult time recovering towards the end.  He still looked great in the fun and adorable routine.  The Argentine Tango was emotionally raw and absolutely beautiful.  For a section of the dance Nyle, again pushing the boundaries, and was blindfolded.  The choreography was far from simple, but this time Nyle was able to shine and the couple’s chemistry was on point.  Score: 57/60

Ginger and Val

In round one the couple had Artem join them in the Paso while the couple’s individual dance was the Quickstep.  Val described the partnership with Artem as “He is the honey.  I’m the mustard.  Together we make honey mustard and [Ginger] is the chicken nuggets.”  Atrem was able to be the patient instructor while Val pushed his partner to make the dance as good as they could.  The Paso was sexy and full of great attacks.  There was very much a Kill Bill vibe to the routine which is something I think they were going for.  The Quickstep was so entertaining and happy, it was a perfect routine for the fun and cheerful meteorologist.  Her sunny personality to shine thru.  I was smiling the whole time.  Score: 56/60

Antonio and Sharna

Troop member Haylee joined the couple in an Argentine Tango then the couple had a Contemporary routine for their individual dance.  Sharna wanted another fierce female for the Tango because she wanted to push Antonio to step up as a leading man and show that he deserves to win.  The dance was great, but Antonio didn’t look like he was enjoying the two gorgeous women and didn’t take the lead as much as Sharna was hoping.  The Contemporary was a whole other story.  Antonio was raw and open, he didn’t hold back from an emotionally filled dance.  He looked like a true competitor.  Score: 55/30

Going to the Finals – Paige & Mark, Ginger & Val, and Nyle & Peta

Eliminated Couples – Wanya & Lindsay and Antonio & Sharna

Perfect scores and a break through doesn’t always save you in the end, sometimes it is just a little too late.  On the bright side, this may be the best finals I have seen in some time.  In the past few years, there has always been that one couple we all root for and keep voting in even though the Star is not good dancer.  We don’t want to see the journey end for them because they have done so much just to get that far.  Compared to the other two couples, they just don’t stack up.  Not this year as the three remaining couples are really incredible dancers.

Who is going to get that Mirror Ball Trophy?  Will it be the MMA fighter?  The Meteorologist?  Or the Model?  Next week will have the free style dances on Monday and then the finale on Tuesday so come back and celebrate the winner with me on Wednesday morning.
