There are few shows that actually have me excited for the 2016-2017 network line up especially after decent shows have gotten the ax. (Is ABC really going to exchange the brilliantly amazing Agent Carter for the horribly looking Conviction?) One show that does look promising is NBC’s Powerless which is a workplace comedy based in the world of DC comics, but none of the characters featured in the show are from the DC world. Take a look at the trailer here:
Powerless stars Vanessa Hudgens, Danny Pudi, Christina Kirk, and Alan Tudyk as a group of insurance claim adjusters who work specifically on damage claims caused by battles between heroes and villains.
In the preview, many of the DC superheroes are name dropped, but most likely will never be seen (like ABC’s Agents of SHIELD). Unlike AOS, Powerless doesn’t sound like it is going to be solving mysteries that are “too minor” for the bigger heroes on-screen to take on. It sounds more like everyday people having to deal with trying to hold your own in a world full of people who can stop bullets and battle monsters.
It sounds kind of refreshing to be able to see the comic book world from the point of view from non-Meta Humans as they are known in the DCEU. As much as I love AOS, I kind of miss the days when all of the characters didn’t have superpowers and they had to find other ways to solve the mystery of the week. Hopefully, if the show survives the gauntlet of fall premieres and gets a back nine order, none of the main characters develop powers and it continues to be about those who have not.
What do you think if NBC’s new show concept? Will you be tuning into Powerless when it premieres midseason? Let me know what you think in the comments section below.
