The final (and extended) trailer for the sequel no one asked for arrived last night and I still can’t find myself caring about this movie. Take a look after the jump:
Nothing new is revealed in the trailer. The aliens are coming to take Earth and humanity must band together to stop them. Lots of stuff is destroyed, people make big speeches, and then everyone is firing their guns. It just looks so boring. I think what really gets me about this film is the oh so serious tone of it. I loved the first Independence Day. It was fun and exciting with a few moments of gravitas thrown in to keep it grounded. Resurgence just looks joyless. Jeff Goldblum is not doing his fun Goldblumy thing as much, Bill Paxton is lacking that cowboy charm he had in the first film, and Liam Hemsworth and Jesse Usher look like they are there to appeal to the younger demographic.
What did you think of the final trailer? Is this a sequel you are excited for? Or are you like me and just can’t muster the will to care? Hit me up in the comments section below.
Independence Day: Resurgence hits theaters June 24th.
