For the last week, Star Wars fans have waited for Thursday night to finally arrive so we could see the second trailer for the spin off story. Was the hype worth it? Check out the trailer after the jump:
Can I just say ohmygodohmygodohmygodohmygod!
The trailer starts with the slowed down piano suit of the Imperial March and Saw Gerrera (Forest Whitaker) warning “the world is coming undone, Imperial flags reign across the galaxy” and I was pretty thrilled. By the end, I was bouncing around my living room with anticipation. Then this happened:
And I lost it like the crazed fan girl that I am.
UberApe complained it was too brief of a look at the loved villain, but I thought it was perfect. It is fairly known Darth Vader is only going to have a very brief cameo in the film, so why try and sell him as being more to the story (looking at you Suicide Squad).
Getting back to the story at hand, the trailer continues to set up the plot we have become familiar with. Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) is recruited by the Rebellion to help steal the plans for the newly built Death Star. This time instead of focusing fully on the female insurgent as past looks have done, the supporting characters of Cassian Andor (Diego Luna, Chirrut (Donnie Yen), and Baze Malbus (Wen Jiang) are brought to the front to give their reasons for joining the fight. K-2SO (Alan Tudyk) and his interestingly dry sense of humor are also introduced as well as the grand scale of the final battle.
Lately it seems as if every blockbuster hitting theaters have been the subject of reports about behind the scenes drama. Rogue One has not been an exception here with rumors surrounding major reshoots and clashes with the studio about the ending. This trailer does a great job is shifting the focus back to how excited we all are for this and assures us the film is on track. If some of those gossip is true, then the studio wouldn’t make the release date. Unlike other trailers for troubled films, the tone and look for the Star Wars spin off has not changed.
