Spoilers for “eps.2.5_h4ndshake.sme”
I swear I could hear millions of Mr. Robot fans screaming “I KNEW IT” at their TVs last night. For those who guess Prison Theory, Congratulations! I was not one of them this time. I was back and forth on the idea of him being incarcerated, but mostly I was thinking rehab or mental hospital. Oh well you win some, you lose some.
Now the big question is why in the hell Elliot is in prison in the first place? One possible reason could be his jail break of the drug dealer Fernando Vera last season. Though it would seem unlikely he would have such a short prison time for that and one letter would ensure his release. If I had to guess, Elliot got into a fight or beat up someone to get sent to prison which is why he was seeing his psychologist, Krista Gordon, again.
The twist of Leon working for Whiterose was something I did not see coming. Well done on the part of the producers for that surprise. Too bad there will be no more Leon now that Elliot is leaving prison. Though if the writers found a reason for him to get out, I would not be in any way disappointed.
To end the Ray saga, Elliot just did what he should have done in the first place. Handed the whole site over to the FBI with one quick anonymous email. I know the whole ordeal was to get Elliot to make peace with his other persona and have him internally discuss the struggle of good and evil duality within a person, but I enjoyed the back and forth of Craig Robinson and Rami Malek so I am disappointed it ended as quickly and anti-climatically as it did.
I am excited the E Corp takedown and the whole “stay one step ahead of the FBI” plot is going to be the main focus of the show.
Plot wise, again this episode didn’t have too much going on in terms of the season two story. Mr. Robot confirmed that he/Elliot shot Tyrell, but they didn’t say he was gone. If he was deceased, then who has been sending the gifts to Joanna and called her breathing heavily (and forcefully like Elliot was when he was hurt)?
I’m not so sure the “very important businessman” is dead and gone, just maybe incapacitated for now and Mr. Robot is letting Elliot assume Tyrell is no longer in the land of the living. If Mr. Robot/Elliot killed Tyrell, then the alter ego would have shown us/Elliot the memory of it instead of just telling us/him about it. If Elliot knew Tyrell was alive, then he would go look for him instead of going back to the E Corp mission at hand.
If he is alive, Tyrell is going to have a bad time when he comes back. He is the face of the E Corp hack and his wife is divorcing him.
To be honest, I’m not sure what Angela’s game with Phillip and E Corp are. It seems as if she is trying to get to the bottom of some case to prove to herself she can. Like she is trying to make changes, but she is going about it in the wrong way. Fooling herself (and unsuccessfully fooling others) into thinking a company that values nothing but profit would value her as a worker.
I will say, Angela does not have a face for lying. Her big eyes and expressive face just say “look at me, I’m doing something I’m not supposed to.” It doesn’t help that Dom is way too perceptive. I am thinking she is going to take the fall for the hack and season three will be about Elliot trying to get her out of prison.
For now, Angela is safe because the hack she did with Darlene worked and many flies have been corrupted, but Dom is like a dog with a bone. She will not rest until she gets some answers.
What did you think of last night’s Mr. Robot? Did you think the Prison Theory was right? What do you think is going to happen next now that Elliot is out of prison? Let me know in the comments section below.
