This Week in Nerd News

Lots of casting news, promos, and new shows happened this week in the Nerdy World.

MCU News:

Photos of what looks to be the villain Shocker have been leaked adding one more villain to the generous number of baddies in Spider-Man: Homecoming.  The amazing Bokeem Woodbine is heavy rumored to be portraying the master thief.

X-Men News:

Two new promos for FX’s Legion (premiering in 20017) looks very mind bendy and kind of drooly:

DC News:

Joe Manganiello has been confirmed as Deathstroke for the solo Batman Film.

Voice actor Ryan Potter made an action concept video as an audition for the role of Tim Drake.  He and fans have been campaigning for Drake’s Robin to appear in the movie and Potter to play him.

At the Canadian Fan Expo, Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill (promoting The Killing Joke) were asked by a fan if they wanted to adapt any other famous Batman graphic novels into a feature length cartoon.  Conroy named Hush as his choice, Hamill picked Death in the Family. Someone please tell me what I can do to make these movies happen.

The TV adaptation of Black Lightning found a home at FOX.

Watchman actor Billy Crudup has been cast as Barry Allen’s father in The Flash solo film.

Other Movie News:

Sully tops this weekend’s box office with an estimated $34 Million.  Thriller When the Bough Breaks came in second with a reported $14.5 Million

Set photos for the highly anticipated adaptation of Ready Player One have been floating around the internet.  Filming started yesterday.

The reboot of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers (simply titled Power Rangers) will not feature cameos from the original cast.

TV News:

Netflix drug drama, Narcos, has been renewed for a third and fourth season despite the second season (SPOILER ALERT) ended with the drug king pin, Pablo Escobar’s death at the hands of DEA agents who were raiding his compound.

Vince Gilligan is developing a limited series drama centering around Jim Jones and Jonestown for HBO and I’m already more excited than I should be about it.

Richard Madden is starring in a new Amazon Pilot based on the Michael Faber book The Book of Strange New Thing as Peter Leigh, a priest who leaves his wife to be a missionary for the distant planet, Oasis.

Hulu has ordered 13 episodes of the Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg sci-fi/comedy Future Man which stars Josh Hutcherson as a janitor/gamer who is recruited by time travelers to save humanity.

Other Bits of Randomness:

The Roast of Rob Lowe aired on Comedy Central with most of the jokes centering on controversial Fox News Talking head, Ann Coulter, who was one of the roasters (lord knows why, she is not a person who understands humor).  This leads me to believe her agent must hate her or why would he/she set Coulter up for that kind of ridicule.

Are you excited for Future Man, Legion, or Black Lightning?  Do you think there are too many villains in the Spider-Man film?  Did you go see Sully?  Let me know what you think in the comments section below.
