New trailers, lots of casting announcements, and Zack Snyder teases us a plenty this week’s update in the geeky world
Nathaniel Essex (A.K.A. Mr. Sinister) has been confirmed by Bryan Singer as the villain for the upcoming Wolverine 3, but the director of said film, James Mangold, has since tweeted this:
Uh. Who is Mister Sinister? Sounds kinda corny. Please advise.

So who knows at this point. The frustrating part is the amazing Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad and upcoming Power Rangers) has been lobbying for the role for a year now, and just recently gave an interview with AMC’s Geeking Out, stating he “would kind of like to carve out a new identity. Mister Sinister has always been someone.” Who do I need to relentlessly pester to make this happen?!?
A new featurette from Doctor Strange was released focusing on the titular character’s arrogance and reasons for his journey:
Agents of SHIELD released the newest promo for the upcoming season four and is heavy with the engine revving and vengeance.
Zack Snyder is all about the teasing photos this week on Twitter. For Ben Affleck’s final day of filming, the director posted a photo of the Tactical Batsuit:

And on Batman Day, he posted the first look at J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon:
Other Movie News:
The Tom Hank’s bid for another Oscar, Sully, once again ruled the box office earning a reported $22 Million. The horror sequel Blair Witch didn’t quite hit its modest projections, only covering an estimated $9.5 Million. Bridget Jones’s Baby did even worse (despite good reviews) with an estimated $8.5 Million. Oliver Stone’s biopic, Snowden, brought in a modest $8 Million, but received high scores from audiences. Look for this Oscar bait to gain some momentum with good word of mouth.
Many new trailers debuted this week including a creepy announcement for Annabelle 2.
Disney’s Moana third trailer gives the audience a better feel for the plot and a nice taste of the upcoming music from Lin-Manuel Miranda, Opetaia Foa’I, and Mark Mancina.
The Fifty Shades Darker trailer obliterated the record of most views in 24 hours (previously held by Star Wars: The Force Awakens) leaving me wondering why in the hell are these books and movies still a thing.
Rob Lowe (Grinder and The West Wing) and Emmanuelle Chriqui (Entourage) join the cast of Super Troopers 2 as a mayor of a Canadian Border town and a French/Canadian cultural attaché.
DC TV News:
Dichen Lachman (Dollhouse) will be making an appearance on season two of Supergirl as the baddie Roulette and set photos from the first few episodes featuring Teen Wolf’s Tyler Hoechin as Superman/Clark Kent, Lena Luthor, and Cat Grant have made the rounds.
Shameless‘s Cameron Monaghan released an audio clip of his Joker laugh teasing the return of the prankster villain to season three of Gotham. Showrunner John Stephen has stated the “cult of the joker” (which was teased during season two) will “extend and deepen and change a little bit this year.”
The much-anticipated Star Trek: Discovery has been pushed back from a January premiere to May due to production demands.
The Lost in Space reboot at Netflix has found their Judy Robinson in Falling Skies actress Taylor Russell.
Mary Elizabeth Winstead (10 Cloverfield Lane and Brain Dead) will be joining the cast of the third season of Fargo. She will be a parolee who loves her card games.
Random Bit of Fun:
A Japanese Twitter account uses action figures of Bruce Lee and Freddy Mercury (who I’m pretty sure have never met) to create a photo series of the two icons as friends having fun adventures:
Did the looks at the Tactical Batsuit and Commissioner Gordon have you excited for Justice League? Are you excited for the Annabelle Sequel? Is the delay in Star Trek bumming you out too? Let me know in the comments section below.
