Dancing with the Stars Week 8 Recap – Scary Good Competition

Last night the Halloween show (favorite show and holiday) was full of treats as each couple danced FOR THEIR LIVES!  Just kidding, they danced to win immunity from both elimination and the dance off.

Since my neighborhood treats Halloween like a massive deal, I was overrun with little ghouls, goblins, monsters, princesses, and superheroes (with a few freaky ass clowns for good measure) for several hours last night, this is going to be a little less content than usual.  Mama’s exhausted here.

Going from lowest to highest:

Ryan and Cheryl (Tango) – The pro put the Olympian thru dance boot camp (maybe she should have done that in the first few weeks?) to try to make their Maleficent inspired tango work.  Ryan tried his best, but some people don’t have the ability to let go and just move.  Score: 23/30

Marilu and Derek (Argentine Tango) – Last week had the actress feeling pushed down physically (because Derek accidentally pushed her too hard during the group dance) and emotionally.  Derek is doing his best to give his partner some of that confidence she had earlier in the competition back, but it is not easy when the dancing is taking a significant physical toll on her.  They had a great spooky dance that was unfortunately marred by a few mistakes.  Score: 23/30

Terra and Sasha (Cha Cha) – A Beetlejuice inspired dance!  Hell Yeah!  She would have gotten a ten from me.  The two really got everyone in the spooky mood.  Fun and freaky.  The judges are getting to the nitpicky point which means they are expecting more.  Score: 24/30

Jana and Gleb (Jazz) – How has Gleb participated in dance competitions for so long and never choreographed a jazz routine?  Could have fooled me.  Their routine was so well done, it was almost on a Broadway scale with the set and extras.  Judges were way too fussy with her.  Score: 27/30

Calvin and Lindsay (Quickstep) – I want these two to be my best friends.  They are just too adorable together!  So entertaining to watch a routine full of a great deal of content, but never felt chaotic.  Laurie may not be the shoe-in winner thanks to the NFLer and James.  Score: 30/30

Laurie and Val (Viennese Waltz) – Laurie has been disappointed about her scores the last couple of weeks after achieving perfection.  She cleared her week to dedicate her time to Val and the competition and, man, did that pay off.  Full of that sweet Willy Wanka-ness.  I wanted to cry after that performance, it was so beautifully done.  Score: 30/30

James and Sharna (Viennese Waltz) – Sharna’s knee injury took its toll last week, but the pro pushed through.  This week Sharna got the news there is a possibility she could be done for the season making the couple worry this could set James way back in the competition.  But James is a pro and killed his Suicide Squad themed waltz.  The man could have chemistry with one of those plastic skeletons.  Score: 30/30 and Immunity due to highest cumulative scores this season so far.

Dance Off for Extra Points (or how can we stress the Stars out more for fun because we all know the extra points make no difference):

Not to be too mean, but he should have been gone earlier.  Like week two or three earlier so other, better dancers like Babyface and Vanilla Ice could have stayed a week longer.

And then there were six.  We are getting to the nitty-gritty point.  It is do or die for the remaining Stars.

Who will go home next week?  Who will shine in the ballroom?  What was your favorite dance from the night?  Let me know in the comments section below.
